Grit Blasting

Grit Blasting consists of particles of sand, powdered quartz, iron shot or other hard granular materials blown by a jet of compressed air against a hard surface which is desired to abrade. Locally, graded copper slags are used for blasting, thereby allowing the operator control over the surface roughness and the speed of blasting. Due to environmental requirements, slag blasting in carried out in isolated designated areas.

This technique is the fastest and most economical process of surface preparation of large surface areas and is regularly employed by shipyards for fabrication and maintenance.
